LSL June Edition

Monday 26 June, 7.30The Barley Mow, EC2A 3AU (1)

Listen Softly London June Edition will take place on Monday 27 June at The Barley Mow, Curtain Road, London, and feature Rowena Knight, Rachel Marsh, and Hannah Chutzpah.

There will be three fantastic features and five slots for open mic. To claim an open mic slot, just buy a ticket, turn up on the night, and introduce yourself!

Tickets are £3 in advance, £5 on the door (if they don’t sell out in advance) – but this one will be a goodie so I’d get in quick.

Here is a bit about our three featured artists:

Rowena Knight

Rowena Knight was born in New Zealand in 1988 and currently lives in North London. She studied Ancient, Medieval, and Modern History at Durham University, where she established the university’s Poetry Society. Her poems have appeared in the Morning Star, Bare Fiction, Magma, and The Rialto. She tweets at @purple_feminist, and here are a couple of her videos: Said No Woman Ever, The Ever-changing Job Centre.

Hannah Chutzpah

Hannah Chutzpah is a performance poet, writer, activist, and smartass. She has been described as ‘fine’ by three therapists, as ‘of good character’ by a high court judge, and as a ‘potential maggot-thrower’ by the Metropolitan police.

Hannah studied creative writing at UEA and has been performing since 2009 – everywhere from squat gigs and Occupy London to music festivals, the Tate Modern and the Albert Hall. Her poetry is funny, feminist and often heartfelt. On a number of occasions it has made people cry. Apparently in a good way.

She is an Edinburgh Fringe regular, and her one-woman show about permission ‘Asking Nicely’ received five star reviews in 2014 and 2015, and was voted ‘Best Feel-Good Spoken Word Show’ on the PBH Free Fringe.

She’ll be touring the UK this autumn, with funding from the Rainbow Heron Project – a mental health trust.

Rachel Marsh

Rachel Marsh is a London-based writer and poet. Her stories have been featured in  the Liverpool University Press anthology The Liver Bards and on The White Rabbit storytelling podcast. She is a founding member of London spoken word night Rhymes with Orange, and has performed at the Hong Kong Fringe Club and Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
